An account collector is responsible for collecting outstanding debts from individuals or businesses on behalf of a company or organization. The role requires a strong sense of negotiation, organization, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact clients with overdue accounts and attempt to collect payment through phone calls, emails, letters, and other communication channels
- Develop payment plans and negotiate payment terms with clients who are unable to pay their debts in full
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all collections activities and interactions with clients
- Work with other departments within the organization to resolve issues that may be contributing to delinquent accounts
- Follow up with clients to ensure that payment agreements are being honored and payments are being made on time
- Provide regular reports on collections activities and outstanding debts to management
- Develop and implement strategies for improving collections and reducing outstanding debts
- Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in business or a related field may be preferred
- Previous experience in collections or a related field is preferred, but not required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database management
- Knowledge of debt collection laws and regulations is preferred, but not required

- May require occasional lifting of boxes or other materials
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed in an office environment
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate client schedules or deadlines
- May require travel to meet with clients or attend industry conferences or events
